I have just ordered a new Mini One [from dealer stock] and have been advised that the spacesaver will have to sit in the boot. The salesman advised me that the underbody cradle could only be supplied on cars specifically ordered with this option and fitted at the factory.
I have read various forum notes and discovered that a retrokit was available on earlier R50 pre-2007 Minis, but I'm not sure what is available for a 2011 car. The salesman said it can't be done...but surely I can't be the only new Mini owner who subsequently decides to want to mount a spacesaver under the floor!
Any help or advice gratefully received. I need boot space AND a spacesaver you see.

If it can be fitted at the factory it can be retrofitted, your salesman just can't be bothered or does not know.....which is not uncommon.......all the parts are available ordered from your local Mini Dealer spare parts department:
How to fit:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 215/40/17 v Runflat Tyres - Forums (http://forum.minicooper.org/showthread.php?t=9726)
Later R56 2010 Mini One spacesaver parts:
RealOEM.com BMW R56 One SINGLE PARTS F EMERGENCY WHEEL MOUNTING (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ME32&mospid=51221&btnr=51_6480&hg=51&fg=80)
2010 was the latest I could look up on Realoem.com but a 2011 Mini One will be almost certainly be the same, nothing significant has changed under the boot floor to my knowledge.

Thank you mab01uk, that's just what I was hoping to hear. I'll see what happens once I've collected the car and try to order the necessary parts. It makes me wonder how many other people get mislead by salesperson's comments.

I ordered the underbody spacesaver mounting kit and fitted it, no problems, now 100% satisfied with my Mini.

Hi,
I'm thinking about retro fitting the same kit. Cannot make out from the OEM parts list how the whole assenbly works/fitted.
Would you have any pics of your completed project?
Does the wheel bolt through into the boot area or does the kit have a cradle which bolts onto the car, which the wheel then bolts onto?
Tks

The spare wheel sits in the plastic cradle on the ground under the car, then it is pulled up/lifted from inside the boot via the lifting handle and secured in raised position by a spring clip and bolt, handle can then be unscrewed and stowed away.
To release spare: from inside boot, undo bolt (wheel nut size) in recess on boot floor, screw in handle, release spring clip and lower wheel+cradle down to the ground.
I think there are detailed instructions/diagram of the option in all MINI Handbooks.

Let me know your email address and I'll send you some photographs...I photographed each stage of the fitting so all will be self explanatory.
