Hi all,
A month ago took the the Mini in for a brake and oil change under the TLC xl pack, they also did a free visual check of the car and heres what they came up with.
1) Replace tyres as low thread.
2) Replace front brakes 90% worn, rear brakes 80-85% worn.
3) Sump gasket leaking oil
4) Right engine mount leaking.
Not to0 worried about 1 and 2, but quite worried about 3 and 4, the Lady said bring it back in a months time for another check of 3 and 4, to confirm they are leaking. Took it back last week and according to them is still leaking :frown:
Got quoted £198 for the brakes front and rear. Engine Mount - £132.99 and Sump gasket - £151.61
But the guy wasnt particularly worried he said this was a common thing :aargh: so I pushed him further and asked if this was his car would he get the gasket and engine mount changed and shockingly he said not just yet just wait more about an year and bring it back for another check but keep an eye on the engine oil.
My neighbour he knows cars pretty well and has offered to help change my brakes :biggrin: and i asked him about the leaks and he said if you cant see oil on the garage floor then theirs nothing to worry about.
So what are your experiences with such matters folks. Love to hear your opinions.
PS: For the brakes I looked on Europarts and they recommend Pagid brakes which should set me back about £76 front and rear. I read somewhere on Mini2 that OEM brakes are ATE which would set me back £86. So which ones would you put on and where would you buy brake pads from.
