Hey,

I am trying to figure out if my new Mini cooper S 2010 has automatic headlights.
When turn on the ignition the lights are going up and down so it seems they are self leveling.

However they do not seem to be turning left right as I turn the wheel. I tried this both on the road and in the parking lot with a wall in front of me revving the engine and turning the wheel.

Is there such a thing as bixenon headlights that only level but don't turn or I am too dumb to figure out how it all works?

You're thinking adaptive headlights, which means they turn with the wheel. Your car has Xenon headlights that are automatic, meaning they turn on automatically when it gets dark outside. All Xenon headlamps are also auto-leveling, but that's not an option. Since Xenons are so bright, they keep them pointed at the road rather than up into the air, even when you are going up a hill, in order to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

The adaptive headlights option was a $100 option added in model year 2011 MINIs, and they only turn with the steering wheel if they are in auto mode. If you turn them on manually, they will stay pointed straight ahead.

Hope that answers your question!

Does clear quite a bit thanks.
Basically I don't have adaptive headlights, but being xenons, they do autolevel.
Will see how much would the "adaptiveness" cost as a retrofit and decide if it's worth it.

It is a cool feature, and helps on country roads, but it probably isn't worth it to retrofit. It doesn't turn that much, just enough to see a bit more around the corner. If you really wanted to, you could probably just replace the headlight cluster with a 2011 model with the option, but setting up the turning lights would require some software work I believe.
