Happy Friday! My 08 Cooper S has terrible static on the AM stations. It varies in intensity intermittently. Very annoying...to the point I just have to turn it off. No issues with FM or satellite. Is this a common issue?

I've had a similar problem. Is it a bit better when the car is standing still?

Moving or standing still doesn't seem to matter.

It took several tries for the dealer to fix mine. At first it seemed to be a loose connection, then they thought it was the wiring for the diversity antenna. The final fix was as follows, "On diversity antenna, no change, ran dedicated ground from trans control unit pin 25 and pin 4 to good ground location. AM reception seems better and when drive or reverse is selected reception does not get worse anymore." Hope that helps.

Thank you! I like to go to the dealer with a little ammo. Sometimes we need to point them in the right direction.

Is this a common issue? Common problem but varing causes. There is an amp for the AM and this can be poor connections, amp not working etc. I also think I saw somewhere that in the american market the heated rear window elements are used as part of the diversity antenna so that may have a break in it.
