: Just got a min cooper s and now the flat tyre light is on ? colinw Sep 22nd, 2011, 06:05 PM Hi all, I just traded in my vauxhall vectra for a mini cooper s 2008 plate yesterday from a mini dealer. A mini cherished car.
Today on my way home just as i'm arriving at my house the run flat tyre indicator lights up red indicating a puncture or flat tyre !!!
I'm not a happy bunny, i've never had a puncture before and now after only one day this ?
It came with Pirelli Eufori run flats, 205/45 R17 84V, so now they are going to look at it in the morning and loan me a car.
I hope this isn't a sign of bad things to come ?
I now wish i could cancel this exchange and have my old car back :(
Really fed up. dirchy Sep 22nd, 2011, 06:35 PM Hello Colin, Welcome to Mini2! Not a great start though.
I picked up my current 2006 Gen 2 S a few weeks ago and it had a couple of relatively new but random make of tyre on the front. The car was Mini Cherished and the dealer said they would be changing them before they would sell it.
They wouldn't sell it with them on due to the noise they would likely make being cheap and they couldn't say what the grip would be like.
Might be worth mentioning to your dealer that they are not standard fit tyres and ask if it should have been picked up in the pre delivery inspection.
They might change for free for you. solidsponge Sep 22nd, 2011, 07:11 PM Interesting, got to get something extra from mini cherished, so ask as above about the random tyre makes.
At least its just a flat tyre if it goes red I believe, they will fit it. Must have just been unlucky. If it flashes or goes orange take it back again. Sometimes they can flash orange on fast cornering I have read. but if its stuck orange or flashing then something is wrong, especially if its stuck orange. baxster Sep 23rd, 2011, 02:06 PM Enjoy the car and stop being a wuss, its a flat tyre not a seized engine. :D marque Sep 23rd, 2011, 02:19 PM Hi ya
Check you tire pressures all round you will see the chart driver door at the back I think it's 2.6 bar but check in case
Sometimes if a new tire or tires have been fitted after a few weeks you get a run flat light just because they have settled down and streached a little
If the pressures are ok look in you hand book it will tell you how to reset it
If it come back on take it back colinw Sep 24th, 2011, 07:25 AM I took it back to the garage next morning and they loaned me a mini one desiel.
When they loooked into it they found the pressure to be 0.5psi low all round, so they put the pressure right and then reset the flat tyre sensor. They also showed me how to do this at a later stage should it come on.
I assumed it came on and stayed on because i had a puncture, i didn't know it also comes on if pressure drops. I had only had it one day, so i have a learning curve to go through. I need to read the manual for a start.
I did also ask about the option at a later date of standard tyres being fitted and they said yes you can have standard tyres fitted and keep a bmw kit in the boot.
When i had the loan mini that had standard tyres and the compressor kit in the boot.
So at least there is an option down the should i decide to change them. But for now i have a three year tyre insurance on them anyway in which i can make 5 claims total, and i got a discount on that as well.
Thanks for your help anyway. Mcfly013 Sep 28th, 2011, 01:24 AM I JUST purchased my 2008 MCS used with 33k miles. During the test drive, I got
to run the car through some 'spirited turns'. This activated the tire pressure warning
light. I found the real task, clearing it out of memory, to shut off that tiny triangle.
It's all learning curve, which also applied to the turn signal lever.... It's on...it's off...it's driving me NUTS! marty77 Oct 1st, 2011, 10:10 AM Similar experience with myself. When collecting the car we noticed the two front tyres were brand new. On the drive home from the dealer the light appeared on, we called them and they informed us to check all the pressures but also dropped in the "it wasn't like that when you left" line. I checked the pressures and they were way out on the front two. Pumped them up and reset the sensor. The next day once up to temprature the light appeared again. It took 3 trips to the dealer before they finally fixed it, by putting the two new tyres to the back! I was not happy with this as it seemed a work around to me, would the problem re occur when I eventually changed the front tyres to new ones? After a meeting with the general manager in which we had many other issues to raise they agreed with me and put two brand new tyres on the front too. Touch wood the issue has not raised its head again. Hope you dont have this bother. colinw Oct 2nd, 2011, 08:08 AM Well so far it has not come on again since they reset the sensor, so far so good.
But i have been back to the dealer yesterday for some other issues.
The passenger window when i close it seems to open again, so it goes all the way up to the top then down 4 inches. I have to open it again then close it again, then it's ok.
As it beeen nice and sunny i have been driving around with the window down and always notice at around 1700 - 1800 rpm i can hear a sort of faint whistle noise, hard to explain, not actualy a whistle but it's like it could build up to a whistle but never does. very hard to explain. 2000 rpm and above it does not do it. I did ask them about it and they said it was normal and supposed to do that, something about the air being sucked through the turbo charger ?
Having never owned a mini cooper s before i can't comment really ?
Anyway i have it booked in next week for the window to be looked at. solidsponge Oct 2nd, 2011, 12:22 PM The cooper s first gen has supercharge whine. I dont know about the turbo ones, I'd have thought no whine. Sure someone with one will know.. stead34 Oct 2nd, 2011, 01:52 PM Try and relearn the window top and bottom stops and retry. put the window down then hold the button down for 10 secs, put the window all the way up and hold the button up for 10 secs........ colinw Oct 3rd, 2011, 08:47 AM Try and relearn the window top and bottom stops and retry. put the window down then hold the button down for 10 secs, put the window all the way up and hold the button up for 10 secs........
Ok nice one i will try that out later, and keep you posted. Thanks for that info. colinw Oct 3rd, 2011, 08:51 AM The cooper s first gen has supercharge whine. I dont know about the turbo ones, I'd have thought no whine. Sure someone with one will know..
Yes i'm not really sure either, i assume i have a second gen as it's an 08 cooper s, but i'm not 100% I just need to make sure this is 100% normal while i have a the years warranty with the car.
Hopefully someone knows ?
Thanks anyway. colinw Oct 3rd, 2011, 03:45 PM Ok nice one i will try that out later, and keep you posted. Thanks for that info.
Oh well that did not work :(
So back to the garage anyway on saturday. Tabintab Oct 3rd, 2011, 08:42 PM I JUST purchased my 2008 MCS used with 33k miles. During the test drive, I got

I spin my tyres up quite often, especially in the wet, but never had that warning light come on, guess the LSD i have fitted really works :)
