: Going back to a Mini....

We had one of the First Mini's back in 2001 and Sold it in 2003 for something a bit bigger.

Well, after 4 cars we may be getting back to a Mini for my wife.

Ideally it will be a Cooper S and an Automatic gearbox. I remember we had an Auto as a demo car when our original one was in for a service and that it was not that impressive (although that was a non-S Cooper).

I have spoken to a Mini dealer today and given what I think is the "usual" duff information with regards to the engine spec etc.

The car we have seen is an early 2010 Model, Cooper S with the Auto box. I asked whether this would be the same as the current model engine and was told it was. But, from what I can tell the 2010 version will be a little less power and worse MPG.

Anyway, does anyone have any real world MPG figures or stats for the '09 / '10 models with an auto box ? Just an idea of normal (auto) driving MPG would be perfect.

Cheers :)

The latest and greatest S engine (184bhp) was introduced approximately in the middle of 2010. I have an September 2010 car with this engine and getting about 42mpg over mixed driving. Use of the sport button soon drops it below the official mpg but it is fun so quite addictive.

I am on my third Mini (well on Friday I will). The 2nd one we had was a 2007 R56 S and on a long run I was seeing 38mpg, around town it dropped to around 32mpg.
I understand from reading that the new engine is even better.
I will be more than happy with 35mpg and if I can get 42mpg as intermated above I will be a very happy bunny but I cant see it as the Cooper D they have lent me untill mine comes is showing 42mpg around town.
Good Luck but it sounds as though the new engine is a must.

Actually I have just looked back on the post I made back in 2008 and the MPG was alot better than I recalled. This is what I posted back then:
"Picked up my 6 month old car yesterday and had a nice 3 hour drive back home from the dealer. I had a cooper back in 2005 on 17s and it was very uncomfortable but this is a lot better even with 17s and sports suspension. Was amazed that the mpg showed 48 along the fixed 50 limit of the m1. After that i stuck it at 88 and when I got home it was showing 43mpg which is great."

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like it wil be better than her current car anyway.

I am also going to get a quote on a brand new one with the same spec as the 2nd hand one we have seen.

Runflats... I have the build sheet for the car and it does not mention Ruflats, so I assume the car came without them ?

They're standard; I don't think they're mentioned on the order? :)

Runflats are now an option, you can tick not to have them or tick to have them at £75.
Looking at my invoice as I did not spec runflats I have a jack mentioned in the spec so suspect that this may be key to deciding if the car has runflats or not.
I would warn you that I had a couple of specs sent over for nearly new cars and they did not mention runflats but when I asked they actually did have run flats on.
