I've just bought a Hartge modified Cooper S but I believe the PTO box has failed as in it doesn't turn the water pump.

How could I fix this? I've heard about fitting a David Craig electric water pump and just bypass it but is this really a good idea?

This is all new to me so any advise is much appreciated

Hi ya

I think you have three options
1) see if you can pick a good SC up from eBay and swap the pulley.try and get a generation 5, it has a better coating on the rotors
2) re build your SC i put some links below, its abit of a mare to do but it can be done But you need to look at the pump take off gears and bearings and general condition of you SC before you buy the bits
Redesigned Mini Cooper Supercharger Gear Set (http://www.invasionautoproducts.com/remicosugese.html)

3) use an electric one like you say but make shore you get the correct size and flow rate.

Hope this help you out

Hey, thanks for the info:)

Will it affect the map if I change the sc to a newer one? doesn't it have to be a Hartge sc or is the Hartge just a map and bodykit/exhaust?

Hi

I would imagine they have reduced the pulley size to give you more boost. So when or if you get another SC, check the diameter of the pulleys, you will most probably have to swap them over. Then you map will be fine.
The only real difference between the gen4 to gen5 SC is the use a different coating on the rotors. black on the gen5 and charcoal grey on the gen4, the later coating is ment to disparate the heat quicker that about the size of it.
I have seen them on eBay with only delivery mileage on so if you can get a good gen 4 or 5 normaly around 200 to 300 quid just keep your eyes open

If you get stuck for a SC let me know as I have a spare with about 35k on it.

Thanks for the reply guys

Me and my friend will be taking out the supercharger on Friday to see what the problem really is. If it is the gears in the PTO box, I assume I will need the gears in the link you gave me, but will I also need the SC rebuild kit? I was also wondering about the bearings... where can I get them?? (assuming I would need to change them)

Will get a new water pump to be on the safe side as well ;)

Hi
everything you need should be in the second link I posted.
You my have trouble getting it to bits but take your time, also mark the rotors and all the gears so when you put it back together rotors are in time.
Post some pictures as you go :-)

well we did get close this afternoon but the light was fading really fast today. We've got the front of the car off and I took a quick video to record the noise. I'm busy uploading the video and pics.
