Heya guys, new 2002 cooper S owner here, just thought I'd drop in and say hi!
Loving the experience so far, ridiculously fun car :)
However! I've got a few issues suddenly popped up, and could do with a few questions answered if people have got a moment!
First off, here's a quick photo of the new baby:
[Attached Image]
Lots of stuff planned for her, including a 15% pulley, but first I've got a couple of issues to sort out.
I'm not sure if the following is all part of the same problem or two separate problems. I've got a seriously warped brake disk on the front right side that snatches when braking lightly and makes the car stop in a jerky fashion!
When I get a bit of speed going I'm also getting a serious rumble from the front right hand side, I'm wondering if the two may be related?
I'm wondering whether it's a) just the brake disks playing up and making a racket, b) the wheel bearing being shot and allowing the brake disk to move around or c) the right hand drive shaft
The clues are as following;
The brakes are snatching with a squeaking noise quite viciously
If you power it up to about 80 mph very rapidly the noise will disappear
I'm leaning more towards the rumbling being a CV joint at the moment because when I powered it off the drive in reverse earlier I got exactly the same type of noise, but *really* loud. It kinda feels like CV because they have a tendancy to wear in one direction...
Any thoughts guys? I'm going to order new brakes on monday and get them swapped over as I'm always a bit suspicious about brakes on a new car!
Any help would be appreciated!
