Hello,

I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S with 73,000 miles on the clock.

Its running fine at the moment, well cost me £650 last week for the power steering :(

At what age/mileage does the cam belt / timing belt / super charger belt need replacing ?

Thanks for the help :)

Hi

First things first mini run a timing chain for the cam shaft, no timing belts?
The super charger/aux belt I change mine every 10k or every year but I am running a smaller pulley on the sc.
I am not shore what mini recommend, but it a cheep item and it not worth the risk, some people have had 30k from them some have has 100 miles

My advice is if you can change it your self, change it every year or 10k to 15k or every year at your service. I have seen the mess they leave behind when they brake, and it can be a big bill, belts are around £15 to £20 quid mark if you go for oem part or about £12 from the states for a Goodyear or gates one

The belts take 15-20 min to change
Hope this helps you out

Thanks for the advice.

I've had the car 2 years and put 20k on it and never changed the belt !

I had an inspection 2 service at the main dealers earlier this year, would it of been changed the ??

Any idea how much mini main dealer charge to supply and fit a new one ??

Thanks

Hi

Have a look at this link it quite handy scroll down under inspection 2, poly v belt replacement, that's you SC belt. I would have a look at it in the car see what it looks like, if it looks old call the dealer, and ask them if it was changed under your last inspection.

Look behind the yellow dipstick handle, the belt is down there, though you won't be able to see much, let alone if the belt is worn.

I've added a pic showing an old and new belt, the old one on the right has some cracks in it, couldn't see these until it was off

Thanks again for the advice and picture !

Had a look through my inspection 2 service report and it says the " poly v belt" was replaced !

Guess i've got nothing to worry about then :)

Happy because i really dont wanna spend anymore money on the car after the £650 bill for the power steering
