: Aux lead installation ?

Hi guys,

I have a 2002 Mini Cooper Auto which only has CD and Radio. I am interested in installing some sort of aux cable to it so that I can connect devices with a 3.5mm headphone jack, i.e. iPhones, phones, laptops, etc and the audio will play through the speakers.

Not very technical at all, so please forgive my ignorance.

Just after general advice (can it, can't it be done?) and roughly how much these types of works cost (£)?

Thanks as always,

PS. Attached is a photo of my console..

I installed AUX on my 2003 Cooper S. If you have the right radio (check with MINI) then MINI will sell you a cable that you just plug in on the back of the radio and route to where you want the AUX plug. The cable has a little plate on the end with the AUX jack.

It was fiddly, but it only took half an hour or so and you just have to drill one hole in some trim somewhere. I think the instructions pointed you to the glove box, but I put mine in the plastic trim that's against the bulkhead/firewall behind the cup holders and gear stick.

Thanks for that.. Although how do I find out what radio I have? Take it into the dealership? They'd probably charge me, no? Or if I phone up, do you think they could tell me over the phone?

I'd take your car with you when you go to the parts department, and ask them. I've always found those guys extremely helpful in the dealerships I've been to.

Isn't there any other way of finding out?

guys, i just phoned BMW and they confirmed that all in need is something called a "Retro fit aux connection" and it's just a case of attaching it to my existing system.

The cable itself is a whopping £56!! Does anyone know where else I can get these?? (in the UK)

Thanks for the input anyway!

I got a garage to supply the part and fit for £60 all in.

Happy as larry :).
