hi
im new here, just got a mini a few weeks ago and had to change my front pads.
all went ok, but when i came to test them out the pedal goes to the floor. there is braking but very little.
haven't tried bleeding the brakes yet (ill do this today when i get some dot 4), but i didn't open the brake line so i cant understand how air can get in. is it possible that when i pressed the calliper piston in i may have damaged the master cylinder?
i didn't open the master cylinder reservoir cap when i compressed the caliper piston, and the thing did overflow a little with the cap closed. this was a dumb mistake, but cant imagine this can do any harm, after all i've braked hard before.
im kinda stumped, can anyone share some guidance
thanks.

Welcome to Mini2..
was this after you pressed the pedal to bring the new pads back in contact with the disc..

Thanks for the reply.
The brakes felt like this as soon as I pressed the pedal right after the pad change, and they still feel the same.
Just blead the brakes back and front starting from the furthest one. I did remove some air but it's still the same. The line is clear and without air now, and I used about 750ml of fluid throughout the process. I'm still stumped. Because I changed pads before and never had this much trouble. Please help I need my car for the holidays BADLY. Thanks again.

hi
after bleeding the brakes for most of the day. i took my car for a short ride. it is a little better, its probably just the pads wearing in, but again still spongy and like poo. could it be that i need to bleed the brakes again? im pretty sure running 750ml of fluid will pretty much replace almost all of the fluid. i still have about the same left so..... any ideas on what to do now?
thanks.

Sorry I can't help but I can say is if the pedal still has a spongy feel it is not the pads wearing in. Careful, I had an accident in a car a few years ago due to bad breaks. You really don't know how bad they are until you have to stop fast. Good luck.

hi
thought id update...
took the car to the dealer who told me that the car would need a bleeding, but after bleeding it myself i was pretty sure it wasn't this, so i took it to an independent BMW mechanic, who took it round a little, and told me it is normal and the brakes should be fine within a couple of days.... since then i did about 100km and they are DEFINITELY getting better. still have some rust on the discs where the pads aren't touching, but i think when this goes it will be back to normal. so... :) everything is good.
the thing is I'm still REALLY amazed at how crap the brakes are after changing the pads. i didn't use OEM pads i used Brembo pads but i don't think the difference in the pads could have caused such bad braking.
anyway thanks for the help.
