I have an '03 S which is standard and has 47K on the clock.
It still goes well, but I have wondered if the output of the supercharger deteriorates over time?
So, would an SC still produce the new one power at 47K/
What do you think?
Cheers

1st gen superchargers should last untill at least 100.000 (although there have been failures).

I've got the same model year as you, cars on 56k, although running a few extra mods (:p), last time out on a dyno saw 220.8 bhp

100K, that's good. I'm planning a few mods to get 200bhp.
Thanks

What mods have you got planned?

What mods have you got planned?

1) Smaller SC pulley
2) Blue fin
3) Bigger intercooler ( a guy in eastern Europe makes them)
4) Freer flowing exhaust
5) Cold air intake
6) Better spark plugs

200 with those mods?

I also want to upgrade the brakes....

Nice list

Do some research before you get the bluefin though, there are a few stories about them not working too well with the R53, they work well on one's & coopers but have been known to cause damage to the mcs. If you can, try & get a 'custom' tune (specifically for your car) from someone like 1320 Mini - Mini Parts - Mini Performance Parts (http://www.1320mini.com) , the bluefin is a generic 'one for all'. Ring Thomas or Paul at 1320, they can explain it far better than I can:wink:.

Should get 200bhp with those mods though

Just to chime in - My supercharger is on it's way out at 65k - I was told by the MINI specialist I took it too that it wasn't uncommon for them to die between 50k and 100k - but he's seen some go on much longer, just luck really.

I'm currently keeping my eyes peeled for unused ones online - as many of the used I've seen already have 45k - 55k on the clock, and I want more than another 10k - 20k out of it :-)

Thanks guys. The 1320 link is good. I could spend a fortune lol.
I have read that any supercharger is a 'high wear' component but, that is a relative statement it would seem.
I have wondered whether the first item to assess is the SU before any other mods are done.

Hi

I service my SC oil both ends every year when I service the car. And never had a problem. Its done 77k
I have a spare new SC Gen 5 which I am going to fit soon, so I can strip mine and refresh it and do some porting.
I have read some threads about the bluefins the opionion is that they tend to burn out your valves on the MCS. your much better of speaking to 1320 they stand by there work and are very helpfull

Thanks, how do you service the SC oil? Is it topped up or changed completely?
Usual questions...how, what oil, how much oil :D
Any advice welcomed

Hi

You can get service kits from eBay for the eaton m45
Have a look at this link as well
https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/display/tech/2002-2006+MINI+Cooper+S+Supercharger+Oil+Service

Hope this helps.
it is a bit of a fiddle to do but saves you lot in the long run. The water pump gears are the big issue so keep them good the rest of it is easy :-)
I have info on bearing seals and gears if you ever need it
