hi guys
i have 2009 jcw and recently ive been hearing a faint and what i describe as a rumble for a while while the car is ticking over , ive had the timing chain tensioner done as a matter of course so ruled that out then today as i was trying to find out where this rumble was coming from i let my foot rest on the clutch pedal and bingo the noise stopped removed foot noise came back now im no mechanic but sounds like a thrust bearing to me does anyone else agree ?? input would be really good as the car has only done 15000miles since new when i got it and still under warranty , what i would like to know if there is anything else i should be asking the dealer about the clutch its condition so on so on , aagin i dont know if the clutch paltes and flywheel can be seen when they replace the thrust bearing if it is in fact the thrust bearing the car is going in soon any feed back would be greatly appreciated ,

thanks a million

Hi

I am not to clued up on the gen2 but

When the gear box is out they can check the condition of the clutch plate, preasure plate and the dual mass fly wheel and also see if the crankshaft seal is leaking.
It does sound like the thrust release bearing when they get bad they rumble really bad. But it may be the input shaft bearing on the gearbox, so get them to check that as well. Also see i you can get them to check or change the gearbox oil never hurts and is normaly not done.
Hope this helps

You might want to have a read of the problems I had with my Clubman. The link is here:

The rattle I describe in that thread could also have been interpreted/described as a "rumble". If they drop the transmission for _any_ reason, have them inspect the clutch and flywheel. Parts cost pales in comparison to labour. Good luck and don't let them tell you it's "driver abuse", out of pocket the entire clutch kit/ flywheel replacement cost me about €2300 after tax.
