Hi all,

New to the forum. Have recently bought a 03' plate Cooper S. So firstly.....

Hello to everyone on here !

I purchased the car with only the spare key. I have had a quote from Sytner Mini in Birmingham for a new Keyfob. Costs are as follows;

New key £124.46
Programming by service department £108

Total: £232.72

This seems ridiculously expensive. Can anyone suggest any other cheaper ways of doing this. Can I programme this myself at all? Can independant garages programme the keys?

Thanks in Advance,

Alex

Haha they are Jokers.

Getting new keys isn't cheap, but I've seen plenty of other people saying they pay between £80 and £100 for both key an programming inclusive.

Find another dealer.

Hi

You can buy the remote fob from eBay just make shore you get the right type two or three button type and then key insert from bmw that will keep the price down.
I would speak to chris he is a top guy very helpfull chris.odea@lloydblackpool.co.uk
Then you should be able to program it your self
Have a look though this link

Hope this helps if not it should be a good start :-)

Thanks for the replies,

I agree, that seems like a joke of a price!

I previously owned a golf and did all the work needed over the years through the use of forums so am not used to the dealer prices!

I'll get some other quotes i think :)

Cheers Marque. Thanks for the reply. Are you sure you can buy them on ebay and get them re-programmed? I have read contrasting opinions? The part number for the one i need is:

MASTER KEY WITH REMOTE CONTROL (CODE):61317072100

This is only a single button type.

I have emailed that guy you recommended but recieved no reply...
