it seems to be that my ciggerete lighter slot only seems to work when my main beams are on! is this a common problem?

i have plugged my ipod charger into it and when i turn of the main beams it cuts out and doesnt charge nomore.

the ciggerete slot seems to be faulty anyways as it pops out if you slightly force it!!

any suggestions? thanks :)
