: MINI R56 Water Pump Re-Call

After the 5th time of my R56 S going into the garage this year alone (you guessed it folks...timing chain death rattle) MINI have called me today telling me I am one of the lucky 30000 to be included in the water pump re call just released - despite the fact they are letting us know apparently mid Feb.

So if MINI know by now who it is that are involved- why are they not telling the rest of the 30000 by now and doing it...NOW?! If there is a chance of a 18+k at new car catching alight, customers do not want to be waiting 3 weeks to find out it could be theres!

I have had an issue with the rattling noise too for about 4 years. I have been back to mini many times asking them about this noise. There is a timing chain tensioner you can buy that helps the noise. Also mobile 1 0 -40 seems to help me. On the recall....I took my cooper s jcw into mini as the turbo was boiling hot. So hot it burnt your hand through the bonnet. And this isnt driving fast everywhere! They told me all minis get this hot and it normal. now they recall the cars saying and I quote.."Turbocharged versions of the Mini feature an additional water pump fitted to the engine designed to cool the turbo". - Which.co.uk

This was related all those years ago and for mini to think its fine replacing the water pump, after 5 years of my whole engine running red hot is unlawful. If you bought a laptop and from day 1 it was red hot and ruined all the components inside would you just have one part replaced. No...The whole engine in my eyes would have been under stress it didnt need. Has anyone else got issues like this. If so we need to make a stand as Im tired of compaines making us pay for their mess ups!

well my sister has just had her pump done & at the same time mentioned the her bonnet scoop had warped again for the second time(she had to pay for a new one the first time as out of warranty). they denied there was a problem and said they had never come across it before even though the replaced the first one. but they replaced this under warranty as it was only a year old. when she got home and opened the bonnet they had fitted a heat sheild under the bonnet, so they must have known there is a problem with the scoop melting

all engines run hot, turbo chargers especially as that has 800 degree exhaust gases going through it..

Got my recall done as part of some other checks 2 weeks ago. Wasn't even told so until I brought it up yesterday. So they surely can jump queues and initiate a recall repair if they like.

I took mine in for a coolant leak. Momentum Mini said they will check for the leak & take care of the recall at the same time. Turns out the main water pump was leaking so both were replaced under warranty at 43,000 miles. No letter or call, they just handled it!

Thanks for the tip Cooper S Jon, I dropped in and asked them, now booked in for next Friday to be replaced. Hope I don't get any issues like some people have mentioned.

just be sure to check under the hood (bonnet) before you leave the dealer. make sure the reservoir is full, turn the heater on, etc.

the expansion tank is meant to be half full not fully filled..

if you look at the side of it,it will/should say max on it

Just had mine replaced, checked everything before I left and all looked fine, they also completed a health check before giving me back the keys. The drive home was good, no complaints yet :-) so far a good job for Murketts in Huntingdon.

Just had my waterpumpr replaced, I was not contacted but told about it when it was going in for a couple of other jobs. My bonnet is hot but not untouchable, will have to check it now and again though I was not aware of the warping issue.

u just have to show up for a service or whatever. when the service advisor runs your vin it pops up if u need it.

the turbo does get hot, thats why there was such a problem with warped hood scoops.
