Hey all, finally collected my MCS Chili with stop/start, very very very happy with the performance, feels so much more powerful than it actually is. And handling is fantastic, although a bit tail happy in this cold weather :)
I am however disappointed by the economy. On my way from Oxford to London on the M40, my trip computer was struglling to go above 35mpg, despite the fact that the cruise control was on at 75mph. I'm convinced it should be a little bit higher than that. I only reset the trip once I got onto the motorway, as I'm just interested to see what it's like at cruising.
Am I losing some efficiency somewhere do you think? What's your experience in regards to economy? Everything else with the car seems to feel perfect.
BTW, the A/C is off and I'm the only one in the car.
Perhaps the cold weather is affecting efficiency?!
Muchas Gracias

35mpg at 75mph on cruise control sounds ok.
cruise control will not give you the best mpg as it is not set up for economy.
you will get more mpg with it switched off.

I've got an 07 MCS, regular Motorway cruising at 70 gives me over 40mpg. Dont have Cruise control so cant say if that makes a difference.

If you are concerned about MPG I suggest you slow down, MPG will plummet as you increase speed, much more than you would think. Slow down to 60mph and you should see better MPG. My supercharged mcs does a steady 37mpg at 70mph with cruise control on, then at 60 its 40mpg.
The differences between the speeds is so much more than you'd think, my old car would do 65mpg at 60 mph, but then 40mpg at 70mph. The wind resistance increases hugely even with just a 10mph difference.
Experiment and see what mpg/mph works well for you.

I can get 39/40 on a long run
Bear in mind cold wether won't help. You tend to have heating on etc making alternator work harder. Also there is low temperature additives in the fuel too.

Thanks for sharing your experiences guys. Today I was on a short burst from Banbury to Bicester on the M40 and I put the cruise control on at 72mph and the mpg kept creeping up beyond 43mpg, so there is a real fine line between 72 and 75.
But it really does kill your economy when you floor it. I'm hoping I'll get bored of putting my foot down , but I won't put any money on it happening soon! :)
I also filled the car with Tesco Momentum 99, but I'm not sure if I believe in all that stuff in terms of more performance, more economy.

My 2008 Gen 2 MCS has done 36.3 in the last 10 k miles, I tend to average 75-80 o nthe motorway and enjoy the power and handling on side roads, so I think this is good for such a quick car. I reckon keeping it to 70 is probably the best balance between speed and economy.
