Hi all

I have an 07 r56 mcs.

The main problem I currently have is that both keys do not work at all when using the buttons. I can only open/close the cars by manually opening them with the actual key. Then the car alarm goes off til I put the key in the slot. It started going/not workin intermittently about Oct '11 and now the buttons do not work at all.

I have replaced the batteries in both keys and still the same problem :(

Any ideas/experiences of this problem? Hunch is something to do with the remote sensor?

It's going in to a specialist garage in Horwich (nr Bolton) Thursday...

The other problem is the cold start rattle has started again (seems to go when oil is topped up) fingers crossed it won't amount to something disastrous and/or expensive :eek:

The fact that both keys are not working points to a fault with the car rather then the keys. A common fault on older MINI's was the rear view mirror would fail as this is the receiver for the key signal. A simple check would be to swap a mirror out a similar spec car and try it!!

As for the cold start noise it is related to a lack of oil in the timing chain tensioner. The fact that the oil level has dropped suggests you might have a leak that needs investigating!

Hope this helps

Cheers Chris for the pointers...keys are sorted now...took em to Northwest BMW nr Bolton, very good service. Weirdly all they needed were new batteries but I didn't realise that when you put in new batts theys need programming  DOH!

Anyhoo I'm appy it's sorted n will investigate the possible leak n in the meantime I'll jus top up regularly with oil :)
