Hi All,

In the past few days I've noticed that my has started to make a bubbling noise that gradually gets worse as the car heats up but then after about 20 mins tends not to increase in volume and still seems intermitent.

I'd noticed the noise coming from the engine bay - so after inspection and put my hand on the top of the expansion tank cap I noticed it was the coolant thats bubbling.

A bit of history -
About 7 months ago my head gasket was replaced after I was loosing ALOT of coolant and subsequently the engine overheated - however since then the car has been running with no problems.

Now-
Bubbling of the coolant
No loss of coolant
Engine is not overheating
Temp gauge remains steady at the centre
Car is running fine apart from bubbling

I've read a few different posts regarding changing the expansion tank & also the cap but after giving a few more details was hoping to get some further opinions....?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Hi All,

Just a bit of an update - spoke to a neighbour of mine about this who did a hydrometer test on the coolant and turns out it was rubbish, none of the balls floated and I'm assuming that the reason its bubbling is because its not maintaining the cool temperature as it circulates.

As a result I need to do a complete coolant change but although I know from reading posts the best thing to do is drain the coolant from the hose connected to the radiator - I don't know how! I've read alot of posts but my car is the Mini One Diesel from 04 and its a completely different engine layout.

So if anyone out there has a guide ideally including pictures walking me through it, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Andy
