Hello I wonder if someone can help me.

I'm sure the forums get plenty of people who sign up just for one post and to be honest I will probably be one of those. I'm really stuck with this one, and would appreciate some help

I have just bought my mini cooper s 2003

When I am at full throttle the car goes into limp mode at about 5k RPMS depending on the gear its in.

I can half throttle / 99.9 percent the throttle all the way to the red line no issues.

I replaced the MAP sensor with a brand new genuine BMW one and it significantly improved the car in general, however it still happens.

The fault code read 1688 and apparently that's something to do with air flow.

What's the next step?

A P1688 code has also been associated with a failed crank pulley or stuck bypass valve ...

I had the same code come up and it happens when you really start driving hard. It was my throttle body I had to change because the valve you need is built in. Look into changing the bypass valve at same time as would save a lot of time. They tend to go on the first gen mini cooper s I need change myn with I done it when I done the throttle body
