Basically i was driving on the motorway late last night when My Supercharger belt snapped at approx 60mph or so...Stopped the car straight after and awaited recovery,Fired the car up this morning and the battery light shows and there is no power steering?

The previous owner has fitted ALTA pulleys somewhere down the line is there anyway to tell what size the pulley is?

Could this of caused any other damage to the car?

And also what is the process of replacing this belt? I'm a plant Mechanic by trade but wasn't sure if i needed any special tools/Knowledge to do so

Thanks.

Hi ya

As long as you did not drive it you should be ok. But you need to have a good look just in case
The SC belt drives the alternator so that's why you have he battery light on also the PAS is not working due to the alternator not running.
If you measure the diameter of the SC pulley and speak to someone like lohan, 1320 mini, gt tuning, minicraft, coastal racing ect or drop alta an email they will tell
All the main tuning companies have the belts in stock,
I hope you have a tensioner stop fitted if you don't get one it fits on the tensioner damper.
Make shore you have a good look at the pulley system make shore nothing is damaged and no old bots of belt are left.
What a lot of people for get is the SC belt drives the water pump so carrying on driving will result in a trashed engine.
Belts a easy to change there a few ways to do it but I would surgest removing the right hand wheel and liner to check everything because of the belt braking. I do the belts with out doing that but only because the belt has not broken.

Thanks that helps alot....I will get in contact with Lohen asap tomorrow morning and get the belt....The car was running for about 2 minutes or so after the belt broke i noticed there was a bit of water splashed under the hood when i lifted it up? also the fan was running for a few minutes after i switched the engine off?How do i tell if i have a tensioner stop fitted? I have like a flat metal bracket fitted to the tensioner damper would this be the stop?

I've seen on a few threads you need a tensioner tool to do the belts, i live 2 minutes away from Janspeed in Salisbury so i'm thinking it may pay to get them to fit the belt roughly how many hours do you think they will charge me?

Many Thanks

Hi ya

it's about 10-15 min to do the job if you have someone with small hands.
You can feed the belt in and slide it round the pulleys pritty easy just abit of a pain

Tensioner stop should look some thing like this

http://www.altaperformance.com/hardtop/mini-cooper-s-2002-2006-r53/mini-pulley-tensioner-stop

Normaly it's best to change the belts every year or 10k when your using a reduced pulley.
I use Goodyear gator back I normaly get a couple at a time from the states there about 12 to 15 USD each

Just dug this out might be of use have a read it tells you the diameters of the pulley
