OH GOD THIS IS SOOO ANNOYING!!

I just got my 2004 MINI Cooper S a few weeks ago, and naturally i'm showing everyone THE best toy to have :P

One feature i love showing off is the exhaust's crackle burble and POP ( I Think that it's amazing and is a selling point for the MINI ). But when i rev the engine and suddenly release it to get that effect, people's reaction is "OH, lovely car andrew, but i think you need to get the exhaust checked, it might be broken". ARHHH!!!

I try to explain to them that it's a feature, and they just give me that look (sort of "yeah ok, live in denial") it's so annoying!

does anyone else get this from time to time?

What exhaust are you running to give you the popping?

just the standard exhaust that comes with the Cooper S . The Cooper S R53 have this very distinct feature, when the engine is running at normal operating temp, if you rev the engine and then let go, it does a Burble Crackle and POP sound, very beautiful sound, but it doesn't mean something is wrong with the car. is your MINI a cooper or cooper S?

It's called overrun. A great feature of the facelift Cooper S. Excess fuel is sent to the manifold to be burnt off. Fit a full Milltek system Like I have in mine and the pops turn into gunshots!

Yep that's it. @GuernseyGooner, i was thinking of a supersprint system. do you think that the miltek is better?

I spent a lot of time researching and looking at vids on YouTube and decided the Milltek was best for me. Not too loud for normal town driving but has a lovely sporty tone above 3500-4000rpm.

I had the cat back first, which was fine but decided I wanted more noise so got the manifold as well. Milltek systems come with a lifetime guarantee

You have to accept the fact that a car is mere transportation to most people. They wouldn't know the difference between a MINI and a Hummer. Don't bother to explain that some MINI owners spend rediculous sums to get this sound and you got it for free! They wouldn't believe you.
