Hi all,
i have notice that the boot door of my mini has a gap at one side, like it hasn't closed probably, the other side is a tight fit, but as i say one side does n t seem to be a tight seal.

any advice on what the problem could be and how to go about fixing it, or is it a garage job?

thank you advance

I have heard a number of reports of early MINI's with the tailgate hinges broken in half or rusted/seized at the hinge pin pivot point, which then makes the boot open/close by bending the top hinge until it breaks or distorts the bodyshell opening making repairs difficult and expensive. I found the gas struts mask how stiff/seized the hinges have become when I checked mine recently.
Try lubricating both your top tailgate hinges asap with a spray can of 3 in 1 oil or similar. The tailgate can fall off/misalign in bad cases where this has been neglected.
