Hi all

This is my first post and I'm looking for a second (or third, fourth etc!) opinion on something.

Last week my emissions warning light came on. I have a Mini One registered in September 2007, I've had it since 2010 and it has done about 34,000 miles (I've done about 12,000 since I had it).

In August 2010 the "E motor" (not sure what this is!) was replaced under warranty when the emissions warning light came on.

The car is with my local dealer today and they had called me to advise that I need a new Oxygen sensor. In all, this is going to cost me £275.00 ish, as the car is outside of warranty.

Can anyone confirm whether this is a different problem to the E-motor, as the dealer says? I don't trust them! Also, to me it seems unacceptable that the Oxygen sensor needs replacing after only 34,000 miles. That is not just wear and tear. I do not push the car hard - it mostly does journeys around the city. It's in great nick. I'm quite annoyed to have such a hefty bill when I question the quality of the sensor used in the first place.

Quite prepared to have a battle with BMW/Mini on this if I have to, but would appreciate your thoughts before I do!

Cheers

Get it repaired by a good independent & pay a lot less than that price.

these sensors do fail it's the nature of them(exhaust gas temps),they fail more quickly if you do a lot of short trips and the engine doesn't get hot enough(like being on choke),sensor will eventually clog up with carbon deposits..

The e motor sounds like it may have been the electric valvetronic motor, which is seperate to the O2 sensor. As said, short trips can have a negative effect on things like this, especially from not getting up to full temps.
