Hi guys,

I searched on the forum and couldn't find anything on the subject so I decided to open it myself.

This weekend i will be taking off the inter-cooler on my MINI Cooper S to clean the oil out with acetone. I noticed that my inter-cooler fins are all bent, some are closed and others broken off. Now i have taken off the inter-cooler before and noticed that the underside of the inter-cooler has perfectly straight fins and looks in tip top shape.

My Question is this, can i mount the inter-cooler upside down? (Literally just flip it) Or is it a stupid thing and cannot be done?

i was wondering for the simple reason that if cool air can get into those beautiful straight fins, it might cool better.

What do you guys think?

Thanks a lot

Regards,
Andrew

I think the first question to ask is: is there any evidence that it isn't cooling properly?

I do not have any hard evidence perse, but i imagine when 3/4 of the fins are bent, you loose some cooling theoretically, right?

Another reason i want to this is for aestetic reasons, looks WAYYY Better.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi ya

You have pritty much answered you own question.
If the fins are bent even if you could flip it over which i dont think you can the air would not flow thow it due to the restriction of the bent fins on the underside.
If you are worried about it not cooling or looking nice you can buy a fin strighting tool it takes a while to do or buy a new IC

Hope this helps
