Just a quick question, i'm currently driving an 05 Cooper, looking at purchasing an R53 with the JCW engine upgrade. I at first, thought the car was simply a MCS with a sound upgrade, however upon calling the bloke i've realised it's the full engine upgrade.
I'm assuming this essentially means, i'm really just looking at a JCW?
The reason I ask is because i'm 99.9% sure it wouldn't even be worth calling my insurance company looking for a quote on a JCW, I imagine i'd be laughed off the phone. However, will the car being an S with the JCW upgrade make any difference to the price? Or will they simply say "you're not insuring a MCS, you're insuring a JCW"..? Any help greatly appreciated, cheers.

El-coop, how old are you firstly? I am 23 and have a cooper s checkmate with the JCW engine upgrade. This was a factory upgrade. Insurance for me first year was £1200 fully comp and i only had 1 years. No claims. I had the insurance with admiral. I have since gone onto admiral multi car with my brother and the price of my insurance has gone down to just under £600. The joy with multincar if you have someone you can share the policy with is that they only want to know about non factory upgrades. The only other thing to think about is running costs. Mine only does 23mpg around town and 32-34 mpg on a run.

Alright mate, I too am 23. I'm paying about 850 for the Cooper currently, from Admiral. I decided to just browse S quotes and was pretty disappointed when I realised from Admiral they were coming in at around the 950-1000 mark. If i'd bothered checking at the time, i'd have just bought an S in the first place.
I've been a named driver on other cars up until the Cooper, so I have no no claims sadly, which is a bit frustrating. I reckon the S I was looking at would have been sky high. It sold this morning aswell :( :(

Try Adrian Flux and mention you're members of mini clubs as they apply a 20-15% discount. They're quite reasonable with their prices i have found :)
