Greetings All,

I have a 2003 MCS Indi Blue with 100k. I have had the normal problems power steering pump and fan, rack, and new super charger.

The key stopped unlocking and locking the doors about a month ago. We had been out of town for 8 days. The BMW dealer said that it would "charge up" when we drove the car. It didn't. I only have one key. They told me at the dealer it takes 6 weeks and $200 to get another.

Then this morning, mini would crank over, but not start. It doesn't sound right, it sounds tight?? Tried push starting it, but it didn't work. Battery is fine. There are no lights on.

Does anyone have any suggestion?? These 2 things may not be connected, but . . . Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks
Iris

It sounds like your key is not longer associated with your car. Your key has a transponder that sends a code to the car, and without this code the engine will crank but not fire up.

The key has a battery in it for the buttons to work but that shouldn't affect the transponder. Do a search on changing the battery in the key and also a search on re-programming the key to the car and see how that goes.
