you want cooler air, any kit that does not do that is somewhat of a waste, not sure about the mini but, on a vw or audi turbo car removing the screen and grid in the MAF is a big help on flow, it was said to be the biggest restriction in the systems of this type via testing on autospeed.com, lots of good info there

well im just curious as if they work or not. i no my car doesn't have a airflow meter just think the stock airbox has to drag the air all the way from the front headlight to the airbox and then to the turbo so its heating up before it gets there just wondering if there was some way to reduce this and still get cooler air to the engine at the same time

Pre turbo the air doesn`t heat up. Rather, it`s so insignificant it`s a moot point. While a different intake may allow for cooler air to begin with, and that is important, between the filter and/or that entry point and the turbo it not where you want to concentrate for heat management. The intercooler will be the most critical point for cooling the air since the compression the turbo does is what generates the heat and that`s where you want to address it.

Where you draw the air from is significant, to a certain extent, not what happens between that point and the turbo. You want efficiency there.
