Hi i am new to this but have a 2006 mini one d and most recently have started having problems when driving as the needles on fuel gage,speedometers keep flickering up to half way and back down.also the lights on the gauges go bright and then dim when this happens.sometimes it does it when i accelerate other times randomly when crusing at a steady speed! not sure if this is electrical its only started doing it since the winter and i had a new alternator fitted last year and have recently had battery charged up? please help as dont want to have to take into bmw and be charged the earth for what hopefully is only a minor problem???:confused:

You say you had the battery charged up but has it been fully tested for output under load and is it the original BMW battery........on a modern car like the Mini the battery may start the car ok but not be able to maintain power for all the other electrical items in constant use like the power steering pump, etc.

Could be due to dampness, with all the rain we've been having in the drought, or earthing problems, after the winter road salt has done its job in the engine bay, check for any loose connections or connectors where the covers / sleeves arent fitted and sealing the joint properly meaning wet could have got in and check for corrosion at any wiring earth screws etc.
