Hoping someone might be able to help me narrow down the problem with my R53. For the past few weeks, it has been hesitating when I put the key in and turn the ignition. Now, it will never start on the first turn - the lights and all work fine - not a battery issue - but when I turn the key, nothing happens. I try it a few times, and eventually it will start...

What could I do to troubleshoot this problem to determine if it's the ignition, ignition wires, or the starter, and has anyone replaced their own ignitions / starters? Is this something that can be done by myself? (I'm handy with tools and have friends with a garage / lift / tools)

It my be the ignition switch it's self.
I have Heard of them going when people have a lot of keys on there key ring causing wear and damage to the switch.

Look at the earth strap, I had the same problem with a campervan, and it was a shot earth strap.
