The EML started to flicker on my wifes 2004 cooper yesterday from start up and the engine sounded as though it was running on 3 cylinders. After 20 seconds or so the EML stayed on and the engine then seemed OK. Because the light stayed on we didn't run the car but I got my OBDII reader to check the fault code. I have read that EML staying on could indicate one of the oxygen sensors but my question is "I am getting no readout or power from the OBD socket on the car". I have also tried my brother in laws code reader in case mine was not suitable for VAG or Mini but he gets no readout at all either.
We did suffer the "Power steering pump failure" a couple of months ago (see my first post) and unless something has happened at the dealership to stop the OBD socket from working I'm at a bit of a loss.
Any input most welcome, Thanks
