: Mini One reverse sensors not working when reverse light bulb in place

Strange one, the reverse sensors stopped working a week or so ago together with the reverse light.

Checked the fuse and all ok so moved onto the the switch on the gearbox which is working fine. Next I decided to check the bulb in the light and once its removed, the reverse sensors work fine, put the bulb back in (or a replacement bulb) and nothing - no light on or working sensors, even though I get 12v at the light fitting with the bulb removed.

Kind of stumped now:confused:

I did some further investigation and all reverse sensors and the reverse light are wired directly back into the reverse sensor ECU. I suspect an ECU fault but wonder if I use the live feed from the ECU to power the light then run a new earth and see if this work.

Will post an update when I get a chance to try it :)

The way it should work is the 12v feed from the reverse light should power the reverse sensor so that the reverse sensor is only when the car is in reverse.

As a test I would disconnect the power to the reverse sensor ECU (this should be the 12v line coming from the reverse light) and confirm that the reverse light works fine. Following that I would trace the 12v cable between its feed into the reverse light and the reverse sensor ECU and check for any damage / short to the cable. and also check the ground cable for the ECU.

Also make sure the wires are plugged in correctly.
