Would a 205/50/16 or a 195/55/16 do or look better? When it comes to tyres I am completely lost. I am looking for a smaller tire then factory and I don't really want a small rim with a lot of tire.
Thanks in advance.

You don't want to change the circumference. Why do you want a smaller tire. Do you mean a shorter sidewall?

Yes the smaller side wall is what I met. I just don't want to go to the 16 inch rim from the 17 and have a mud tire look.

Tire fitments for 16" and 17" wheels listed by overall diameter (smallest first):
205/40-17
215/40-17
205/50-16
205/45-17
195/55-16
215/45-17
Highlighted sizes are stock fitments.
Smaller diameter means more wheel gap and shorter sidewalls mean increased exposure of wheels to pot holes.

I take it you have 17 inch rims with the 205/45/17 tires. If you wanted a shorter sidewall you could step up to 18 inch rims like on the Works, however this will make for a stiffer ride. Like the Caveman said shorter sidewalls will make you feel the potholes even more!

I like the way you have included the spelling, tyre and tire:)

Not only will it make you feel them more, but you run the risk of bending a rim too if the pothole is a good un!
Ive damaged two rims up to now on 50 profile tyres due to poorly maintain road surfaces. £300 each!

So basically I should stay with the stock fitment for the best protection. Go to a 50 for a smaller sidewall but run the risk of rim damage due to crap roads ... By George I think I've got it! Would still love to see some pictures!

215/45/17 means the width of the tire is 215 mm. The 45 means the sidewall is 45% of the width, 215. So 215 X 45% is 96.75 mm in the sidewall height. So a 50 series tire will make the side wall slightly taller than a 45 series if factoring in the same width. Obviously the last number 17 is the wheel size.
