: Clutch noise and Dual Mass Flywheel

On the trail of my clutch noise, I took the car to Halfords today and they confirmed that the clutch noise is the clutch thrust bearing which will be replaced if I get a new complete clutch unit fitted for £758.

Whilst there I got talking to a guy who said that he had worked for a main BMW Mini dealer for 12 months and during that time, 90% of all replacement clutches needed the Dual Mass Flywheel to be replaced also. Indeed, if the DMF was in a poor state, the BMW garage might state that failure to replace the DMF would invalidate the guarantee given for a newly fitted clutch. The guy said one will often not know if a DMF needs replacement until the old clutch has been removed.

Is it really normal that the DMF needs replacing when a clutch is replaced ? and, if so, I hate to ask but how much is that ?

Thank you

If it helps, the clutch noise is as described in my other post (one above this post in the listing) re "noises".

Hi,

I recently had my mini one in to get the clutch done and was told at the time that they always change the dual mass flywheel at the same time, i was lucky enough to have one of the very very few mini that don't have the dual mass!
But i take it that as this is very labour costly you really don't want this job doing twice! thus the reason they change both.

Hope this helps
