: Which MINI should I buy?

Hello, :)

I'm after some advice on mini's and thought what better place to start than here...

I'm looking to sell my current car as it only does about 35mpg and tax is £250 and high insurance, i want something that is a lot more economical, lower road tax (band A or B) and lower insurance...but also FUN!! I've been very tempted by the minis but just wanted some advice before i look any further.

The internet seems to review the new Mini Cooper 1.6D as the most economical in the range, is this true and what is the difference between the One D and the Cooper D??

Also, more importantly, is servicing/parts expensive? I would be buying a second hand mini so probably wouldnt come with any servicing packages. Have people had many faults with their mini?

I would probably be looking at the ones with reg 58 plate onwards.

Any views at all would be greatly appreciated from Mini owners.

Thanks in advance....

Hi,

I usually do about a 10-15 mile journey to and from work everyday, mainly 50mph roads no motorways. Then run around journeys at the weekends/evenings. Probably around 10,000 miles per year!

Thanks:cool:

my advice would be to buy a petrol one or cooper. ( the cooper will be a bit more fun )

at your annual mileage with a small car like a mini a diesel would not be justified/needed.

you would find the cooper very economical to run and a bit of fun to boot.

Car tax on a cooper is £165 (1st Gen) petrol
and I could only get high 30s mpg, low 40s if I was light footed, but you cant do that with a Mini :)

Hi All,

I was in the same position as you are and I knew i wanted a mini but which one to chose was the problem.....I looked online and found the facts plus used this site to ask like yourself.......I decided to go for a cooper D (Dooper) 1.6 2009 so that i missed all the early problems(I Hope) been out on mixed runs since i got it doing about 69MPG!!!!! Road Tax £20 per/year!!! and if you shop around you can get a good geal on insurance, found too many problems with the mini one diesel but many like as 1.4 engine???

Ive never looked back, I love my car & it is so much FUN to drive:)

Hi Snellie,

I was in a similar position to you and went for a second generation 2007 petrol cooper. The road tax is £95 per year and I get an average of 48mpg out her. I made the decision to get the cooper after test driving 3 different models and would thoroughly recommend doing the same as the drive/ride is considerably different.
When test driving them, the on board computer will show you the average mpg. My Cooper is great fun and I love her to bits.

I hope this is helpful.

I TOTALLY agree with you Minihart, the ride in the cooper is far better than the mini one etc.....but I wouldnt exchange my cooper D for the cooper petrol.....But again totally agree so much fun to drive:):):)
