All,

We've owned a countryman cooper D for 4 weeks and have an intermittent window warning light - picture of a window with an exclaimation mark.

As it is a Countryman it thankfully doesn't have the window small drop on door open. On a US forum site lots of people complain about that!

Spoke to the dealer they had no idea, but were happy to have a look - which we've not done yet

We think it could be weather related as there has been rain and standing water when this has occurred.

Has any one seen it and had it resolved - experience is everything in these matters

Right, so after 66 views, no advice is forth coming - which is a shame as I feel we will disappear into a world of "no one knows why the car does that!"

So a quick update -

Mini actually returned our call, the day after we placed it, and I had a surprisingly good conversation; although, obviously, the guy had never seen this problem before on a Countryman. He offered to have a look at the car, but I said to hold fire on that as it had only occurred once.

Well, now the intermittent warning seems to appear every time the car goes out - oh dear!

Phoning mini again today - will keep you posted.

I am now having the same fault but if i drop the rear window down and put it back up again the fault goes away for a little bit of time

found dropping the rear driver side window does the trick

They're dropping like flies!

Ours is booked in on Monday, so will update then

A friend of ours with a Cooper SD also has the same problem, has only started with the mega rain we've been having over the last week!!!

Neither of our cases is linked to any window operation as yet, the warning just appears when you drive along - v strange!

As you guys are going in with window related problems would you mind asking your respective dealers whether my issue would be covered by warranty - http://www.mini2.com/forum/second-generation-faults-fixes/192949-drivers-window-scratches-opening-closing-window-warranty-cover.html.

In brief, there are three vertical scratches on the window obviously caused by opening and closing it, but not sure of the cause (stones in the seal, faulty mechanism?), either way I feel it's a defect and should be covered but cannot find anybody with the same issue on a new MINI (although my mechanic did mention he had seen it on other brands where it was covered). I will find out today if it will be covered but want some ammunition (i.e. other's experiences).

EDIT: wow literally this second just got confirmation it will be covered under warranty :D

countryman is going back to main dealer as its a new fault for them to look at
only prob is need to wait two weeks but as its not affecting the running of the car
not a show stopper

will update once fault is fixed

Quick update, window warning message came on for no reason - not even operating windows at the time, just driving along - happened on 3 journeys over 3 days - when it was very wet. Friend with Countryman got the same thing too!

Not happened since

Went to dealers on Monday for the day - they found nothing, but re-initialised everything - don't know what that means.

Hopefully it's a nothing, but it's on here in case anyone else gets it

went to main dealer on the weekend been told car needs a firmware update and it will
take 6 hours to do :( gonner have to book it in again

funny thing was i filled the car up with petrol and the error went away 20min before i dropped of at mini

firmware has been updated its been a week and no errors

just need some rain now

66 views doesnt mean all those folk knew the answer and then couldnt be bothered to respond, more like they have the same problem, or know someone with the problem and wanting to know if anyone has found out what the cause was.
So when someone says" Ive had 300 views to my post and no answers" doesnt mean its being ignored, all those that looked simply dont know the answer.
But when the answer is known its great if it could be posted so we all know for the future.

Our Countryman did this last September/October. A sensor was replaced by the garage, but today, in heavy rain, guess what? It came on again. So I looked on the internet to see if others have the same problem, and found this thread. It is clearly a problem that should have been fixed by now. Ours is a Cooper S.
