: Problem with Stereo Install (Sony MEX-BT3900U)

Have just purchased a Sony MEX-BT3900U for a 2003 Mini Cooper with Harmon Kardon speakers, together with what appears to be the correct adaptor cable to replace the standard Mini stereo system and have installed it, following instructions on FAQ section of the forum.

Despite power successfully being delivered to the Sony system, there is no sound coming out of the speakers. There don't appear to be any problems with the Sony system (which is brand new) or the adapter cable and the speakers work fine with the existing system. Pictures of the various plus, cables, sockets and the Sony system itself are attached. Any advice on what might be wrong? I've played with all of the settings on the Sony system and tried all the various sources (CD, radio, USB etc.) and can't find similar problems reported elsewhere.

Any help gratefully received!

Did you fit a HK Enabler (http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=116)?

A-ha! No, I haven't - that would explain it! They're out of stock on that site - have looked on Amazon and there's two options that look much cheaper - would these do the same job, and which one would be right (if any)? Thanks!

Can't post links but if you search on Amazon for the following two products it will come up - thanks so much.

I can't say as to whether either of those products will do the trick ... but I doubt it.

Ian Cull (http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2004/06/mini_hk_with_aftermarket_head_unit_-_productionized/) is the one who builds the HK Enablers.

Give NewMINIStuff a call regarding expected availability.

Managed to get the HK Enabler much more quickly from eBay and it does the trick - only thing now is there is static noise when the volume is low (including completely turned off). Not sure if this is to do with the Enabler or the HK speakers themselves - any suggestions?
Thanks!

It's a result of the enabler causing the HK amp to run at full volume. There is a hiss at low volume due to this.
