Any one with ABS might want to check this. After having random warning lights, and even gauges going up into the red ,my 04 mini one, decided to keep all the warning lights on and then the speedo stopped working.Whilst checking all earth points, and speed sensors, i finally found that, the wiring loom that goes to the ABS unit(right hand side, next to the windscreen, under the bonnet)had been rubbing the rear support leg,so much so,that it had worn through three cables! The only sign on the leg of the abs,was a small rust mark where the loom rubbed. You could only tell that the cables had worn through by undoing the black tape that is wound round the loom.I cleaned up and soldiered the wires back together.I rerouted the loom and protected it with some flexible plastic conduit ,from an old wiring loom.Hope this helps,it took me a long time to find this fault.I read some where that someone else had a loom cut under the ABS unit,so might by worth checking.

Thanks for the info, worth checking cable routing..........I seem to remember there was a BMW Technical Service Bulletin to re-route/protect this cable from chaffing on earlier Mini's but no doubt some would have been missed by Dealers checks.

I've got this problem so il check it out. I've looked at those wires before though and didnt see any cuts. Where exactly is it catching? Can you see it whilst looking at the abs unit?

On the ABS unit from memory, there are three legs,on my car the loom passed the windscreen side of the leg nearest the middle of the car.Now i could only tell there was damage to the loom by undoing the woven tape, from around the loom. Another sign was a small rust mark on the leg, only about 3or 4mm long, half way down the leg. When i worked on the loom,i had to take out the battery and the battery box.All the bolts had rusted to the nuts,so span round,i had to drill them out.I then un plugged the wire from the ABS and pulled the cable back through the legs of the unit. I toke photos, but dont seem to be able to get them on the computor for some reason.if you think they would help i will try again.
