Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the mirrors are retractable on the MINI Cooper with Chilli pack?

Thanks

Yeah, but you have to do it yourself... basically, they fold inwards.

Cheers,

So it isn't automated like with the M3s?

I think the Japanese ones are automated, but us mere mortals will have to resort to manual labour ;)

Indeed, japanese spec=aut-retract. UK=DIY.

It does say in the manual that they fold, but i checked with my dealer and they don't. I'd quite like it if they did, another toy to play with ;-)

Mine are of the manual fold variety too!

Useful tip though - whilst washing the car, fold the mirrors out the way ie lense facing away from car and all the water drains nicely out the mirror thus avoiding the need to constantly dry off the inevitable run of water down the door from the mirror.

(Bad Manners ducks :D)

Why do the Japanese cars get automated folding mirrors and the rest of us get DIY?

It's economics! Most of them need them, and most of us don't. All you need is a bit of research for the part codes, and a good dealer.

GREAT tip! ThanksI tried this yesterday (in between rain showers  ) when I washed my MINI. It looks silly, but it doesn't half work well. Thanks!

I think it might have something to do with the lack of space in the cities and how close cars park to each other in Japan (plus the fact is nobody wants to lose a hand folding the mirrors in manually :p )

(actual photo of parked cars in Japan  )

I thought that parking was bad in the UK!! Electronic retractable mirrors would be helpful. Particularly where there are narrow gaps. I got back to my car which I had left outside the Devere hotel at the Reebok in Bolton and the wing mirror had been knocked back. Luckily no damage in fact the car was filthy so who ever knocked it probably made their clothes dirty!

I pushed one of mine back by reversing too close to a concrete pillar in a multi-storey. I was expecting scuff marks on the black plastic that surrounds the glass, but it was unmarked. I've since replaced the whole mirror assembly, but that's another story.

The part number for the retractable mirror actuator is 67.13.6.910.520

I don't think thats all you need, but thats all I know :)

has anyone else looked at the parts needed in addition to the actuator yet as i appear to be getting nowhere fast.

BMW Milcars want to charge about £280 to fit a new drivers door mirror. Does this sound correct?
