: Bye Bye Mini... Beth's07MCS Apr 25th, 2012, 06:00 PM Honestly, and this isn't meant to cause a mess here because I know how many are beholden to their Mini's.. but lets be honest, the cooper is not a well built car. It's a fun car to drive, yes. Has a lot of pep and handles serverely well. But there is MORE to that in my opinion. Build quality is poor. And this is proven by the shear total of posts on this site, as well as many others regarding problems with the Cooper. There was one post in particular that was very telling, in that, it's title was something like; "How many here with 60k miles and with no problems?"
Really? 60k and you should expect problems? I thought that was only with American cars? :p But conversely, American cars are built better today.
My husband talked me into trading in the Mini for a 328i Xdrive. Love it. Quite frankly, I think it's a better handling car. Has more power as well. AND, I'm only paying $30 more a month for it! PLUS it has a warranty. So, although I liked the Mini. I had to let her go. It's like a bad boy boyfriend. We had fun, but he was arrested too many times. But BMW should be ashamed, because I think it is really unfair that this thing was doomed to break down, and the costs to repair it were absolutely rediculous. :aargh::puzzled::confused::( Macguyvic Apr 25th, 2012, 07:03 PM I understand you and felt the same way about a Land Rover. I left a similar post on a Land Rover Forum. I love BMW's so I'm not trying to be a smart *** but you obviously realize BMW designed the Mini. Hmmm. Hartge220 Apr 25th, 2012, 07:18 PM Have fun with your 328 xdrive :)
Come back & let us know when you've have 60 000 miles of faultless driving & good value servicing & repairs :p The Nun Apr 25th, 2012, 07:28 PM Honestly, and this isn't meant to cause a mess here because I know how many are beholden to their Mini's.. but lets be honest, the cooper is not a well built car. You will always get more moans about things not right about something on a forum than posts that say good things.
Folk rarely say Im going on the forum to praise my MINI.
More like Im going on to slag off the garage thats given me a bum deal or lets find out if anyone else has a problem with this and stir things up a bit.
My niece has a 2003 MINI ONE and its done 80000 miles and never had a problem with anything, oh just a flat tyre, thats all, oh and shes only crashed it once when she was admiring her new high heels and didnt notice the car in front had stopped, buts thats women for you!
But being female hasnt stopped here learning about the car, she can lift the bonnet and do the weekly maintenance, maybe this is why its given no problems, many folk never lift the bonnet between services or even know how to come to that, then when it packs up they can come here and have a good moan about it. Something is seriously wrong with it! My husband is a good self-taught mechanic, worked on many Mustangs and has a worked up Jeep, but he hasn't seen this yet. He hates German cars. We had a Jetta and an Audi before and they were full of problems. He wants to get rid of the Mini but right now it's really not driveable.

Just an observation.....
It's true, every Forum is riddled with frequented with people reporting problems with their cars, it's not unique to MINI, VW Jetta's or Audi's. Even the BMW 3 Series has a Forum for discussing problems:
BMW 3 Series Forum - Technical Talk on the E90, E91, E92 and E93. (http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f125/)
Having said that, MINI did save up most of their mechanical faults and lovingly placed them into Cooper S's built between around 2007 and 2009, so you do deserve a degree of tea and sympathy! Just for a little balance, my own Land Rover is now nearly 10 months and 32,000 miles () old and is proving completely reliable :D BlueBeastie Apr 26th, 2012, 05:16 AM From your first post on Mini2:

Come back & let us know when you've have 60 000 miles of faultless driving & good value servicing & repairs :pNot sure if I should say that I really don't worry because I am under warranty and I do not plan to keep it that long, or worry that your post is an indictment on BMW quality...:confused: Mattstorm May 3rd, 2012, 10:37 AM Ha Ha, this post is awesome!
Just to let you know, I came to Mini's after owning a BMW 320i for 4 months, it has 28K on it when i got it and if I had not bought it but instead walked to the nearest grid and through £6000 down it I would have been in the same position I was with the money I lost on that car in 4 MONTHS!!!! I love BMW's but you could not PAY ME to drive a petrol one now. It was my dream car, I got it and got chewed up and spat out, it is definitely my Eleanor!
Mini's are not screwed together quite as well as the BMW badged BMW's though, I do agree with that! My MINI me and me May 3rd, 2012, 08:44 PM Loved all three of mine but they were either unreliable, expensive to own or depreciated at unexpected rates, the joys of premium motoring! | |
