first post here :)
i have a 2001 mini cooper 1.6 with 54k on the clock black with white roof and panaramic sunroof, has full leathers and is in good condition.
howeva, yesterday the power steering pump went so now i have to fork out howeva much to get it sorted, (any one local to nottingham uk has a pump let me no)
i am going to get it sorted asap but not sure wether to keep the car as only had it a month and allready this has gone..
plus i wouldnt mind a little more power so was thinking mabi selling and getting a cooper s,
or would it be best to keep mine and upgrade? if so how much could the bhp be improved?

Any of the first gen Minis (One, Cooper, Cooper S) will be susceptible to a power steering pump failure because of their design, so it could happen to any of them. You won't be able to increase the BHP much to the Cooper really, you'd have to get into serious engine mods and it still won't be anywhere close to as fast as the S.

Before you get the pump fixed, take it to a Mini dealer and ask them if Mini will make a goodwill gesture toward getting it fixed. Hopefully they'll pay for the pump and most / half of the labour.
