: Cooper s spoiler on mini one fittings? harvey94 May 10th, 2012, 07:50 AM Hi,
My partner has bought me a mini cooper s r53 spoiler for my mini one 2002, its going off to the paint shop soon but i don't have any fixings for it , i assume it bolts and glues onto place? Does anyone know where i could get and what bolts i need? Could i just ask Mini?
Thanks harvey94 May 10th, 2012, 08:21 AM Just had a thought , as its going into a body shop to spray the spoiler i asked them to fit it which was not a problem , can they just bond the spoiler on? or is it best to use bolts? mab01uk May 10th, 2012, 11:47 AM The genuine BMW MCS spoiler has 2 threaded studs sticking out which use standard metric M6 nuts and washers to fit, there are also 2 shaped adhesive pads available from Mini dealers to stick and seal it to the rear tailgate.
Some aftermarket spoilers or copies come without the studs and are bonded straight to the tailgate with strong adhesive used in car bodyshops like Tigerseal. No problem with this but sometimes the spoiler can get in the way of access to the high level brake light should it fail or the light rubber seal start leaking.........so removal is much more difficult with the glued method.

Ok so i called my local dealer for the adhesive pads and was told they don't do them? maybe its changed but they only do a tube based solution which is £29 , i seen this at halfords and wondered if it will do the same job?
Halfords | Evo-Stik Liquid Metal (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_17 6487_langId_-1_categoryId_255230)
Or would i be better with some 3M tape?
My spoiler is the original cooper s one so does have the bolts to hold it into place also Alic01 May 14th, 2012, 12:01 PM If it has the studs in the spoiler i would go with some 3m Tape if you cant get the original pads, the tape can be cut to the right shape and then used in conjunction with the studs.
As said above if you have bolts you dont want a permenant adhesive so then removal if necessary is easier. mab01uk May 14th, 2012, 12:02 PM I agree, as you have the 2 studs then I would only use some double-sided adhesive pads/ 3m tape. I have been told that the large Halfords numberplate fixing sticky pads are similar/cheap and do the job ok if cut to size. With the studs the tape is mainly to seal out water and stop any slight movement rather than the fixing strength. harvey94 May 14th, 2012, 12:14 PM Thanks guys,
I will just go with the 3M tape , just incase i ever get a problem with my top stop light!
Thanks guys, oh and wish me luck! :)
