Help My 2002 mini cooper has started making a really loud fan noise when running and after turning engine off. Sounds like a plane taking off. My local garage are unsure of fault but engine is at 114 degrees even though dashboard does not show and temperature increase. They suggested replacing thermostat first and if this doesn't work change the water pump. Also small leak in radiator and they say that needs replacing. All this costs £800!! Any ideas as to if it is any other these or something else.

I used to have the fan turn on loudly after i turned off the engine. Had this replaced by my dealer "Fan Housing part number 17.10.1.475.577". Noise has since disappeared and been going well for the last 6 months. Hope it helps.

Thanks will suggest that to them. Did garage tell you that your temperature was high. My garage is now saying its problem with circulation.

The fan will kick in when the engine temp exceeds 104 C, and it can be loud when the engine is turned off.

When was the last time your engine coolant was changed?

Only had the car 3 months. The coolant has been topped up in the last few weeks. Garage have now excluded thermostat and water pump and now suggesting new radiator. This is really adding up in work done so far.

Radiator leaks at the bottom corners is common on early Mini's, the later replacement rads are modified.
