: Wrong Mileage

I bought a Mini Cooper D (10 plate) from a Mini dealership last week. I had all the details of the car on the website and a A4 sheet I had obtained from the dealership when I went looking at the car.
On the website and the sheet it stated 10,000 miles...
When I purchased the car I hadn't noticed until I got home that it in actual fact it had 15,800. I immediately rang the dealership and they said they would get back to me. Bearing in mind it might not be a lot but it's 50% plus what I was expecting when you look at it in percentages.
At this point I will cut a long story short with them ignoring my phone calls and not ringin me back. I hadn't realised that the salesman doesn't get 2 minutes in his day for a phone call.
Eventually they rang me back and said they could sort me out with a valet. I couldn't believe it.!! I then asked for an extra year warranty and 3 new tyres. They have since come back with they can offer me the TLC XL package (3 years extra service) which I'm not particular happy with.
I would like to hear what you think and basically where I stand with it.
Thanks

I'd have the car independently valued with the correct mileage, and then go back to the dealer for a refund on the difference.

Try and find a like-for-like spec with the 15k Miles and see if there is much of a price difference.

Worst case, I'm sure you can get your money back under the sale of goods act or something like that, false advertising etc.

If you like the car enough to hand over what will have been a large sum of cash you probably want to keep it. I would keep pushing the dealership and ask to speak to the dealer principle, i would do this in person unless you are not very confident in which case hand in a letter at reception demanding a response in a set time by email.

I would push for the TLC XL Package which is worth a decent value in reality, take the valet as well (take it in when its really minging) and still push for the tires. If it had only done 10k miles it wouldnt need tyres, as its done 15k it does, thats the type of argument you need to put foreward but keep it professional and sharp.

If it was advertised at 10k and it has 15k on the clock it's misrepresentation so the least you should get is a full refund (if you want of course).

Personally, I'd be inclined to give it back and go elsewhere for another one...

I did buy it from Halliwell Jones. I must admit I was happy with the salesman and not being pressured when looking around. Everything went smoothly until I found out about the mileage when they started ignoring my calls etc.. Other than this I would have recommended them to my friends
Also I'm happy with the car just not the extra mileage issue which to me is a big issue.

I agree its a big issue and i would be trying to get everything you can out of them. If you are happy with the car and can live with it then you just need to push for everything you can get. If you cant live with the mileage and want to hand the car back then you will have to do so quickly.

In reality the TLC XL package they have offered you will probably be worth as much after 3 years for having all dealer stamps than the extra 5k miles will reduce the value. But push for the extra tyres as well, the salesman will normally be happy with anything he can push into the service department budget with a bit of effort.
