Hi there I have recently purchased a 52 plate cooper s and I was just wondering if it was normal for the engine to warm up very quickly, it gets up to half way on the gauge within 5 minutes.
Does anybody know how to change the temperature displays from centgrade to fahrenheit?

5 mins is normal, most modern petrol cars warm up fast.

Cant help with the C to F change

Modern car temp gauges like that on the Mini go to normal quickly but don't register any small changes in temperature accurately. A Scangauge2 below or similar gives exact temp readings if plugged into the OBD diagnostic socket.

The gauges are designed not to scare people :) My old Mini (2002 MC) used to sit in the middle of the gauge from 70 deg C to 110 deg C. So by the time it started to move above half way she was hot. :(
