Hi,

I took my MCS in for a standard 90 000 kms oil service change and was told that my car was one of the recalled ones to have the water pump replaced that cooled down the turbo. That being said, after two days I got the car back and everything seemed to be ok. After doing about 30kms with the car, when I switch off, for about 5mins+ there's a hissing/deflating noise coming from the radiator/turbo area. It is definitely not the fan that comes on after a hot day of driving a MCS. This is more a hissing sound (much like when you deflate your tires)

This is the first time I hear the sound. Could it be related to the pump replacement from the recall?

Responses would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like pressure being lost from some plumbing somewhere. Take it back to the dealer to play it safe. Where in SA you based?

My 07 had the aux pump replaced after the yellow temp light went off, and then the yellow temp light went off again a couple days ago. Once again I heard that hissing noise.

I figured it must be the thermostat because no heat was coming from the heater. The day before there was no heat then all of a sudden there was lots of heat. I've read that the thermostats stick off so it all made sense.

I've replaced the thermostat, or the jarvik heart pump, as I've heard it referred to, refilled with antifreeze, and bleed the air out.

The heat now comes on big time, but when I stop there's still that hissing noise that seems to last a few minutes. Sounds like exactly the same thing.

Is this normal? How can I verify the aux pump?

What happened to your car?

anyone have any more information on this?

I've just had the recall done, and am now getting a hissing along with the new fan noise from the pump. The hissing stops at exactly the same time as the fan, approx 5-10 mins after switching off the engine.

Went back to mini, who said it must be an airlock in the system, and took it in to re-blead the system, however, the hissing still remains after I drove it home.

Mini have told me to drive it for a couple of days, and keep an eye on the coolant levels, and let them know...

My 2011 MCS water pump makes a hissing noise as well. The pump was not part of the recall. I think it is normal.

You can hear it running but definitely not a hiss noise, more of a hum Id say?

It could be a defective water pump for the turbo or the main water pump may be going bad. You hear it after the car is turned off. Is there any coolant leaking? Have you checked the level? Maybe the shop didn't get all of the air out of the system. MY main water pump was replaced when the turbo water pump was replaced. I had to take it back to have the main water pump replaced again. it wasn't hissing but it was making a bearing sound when started after warm.
