Firstly I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong section only joined today and this is my fist post :)

Iv got a 55plate Cooper Automatic which I think is the CVT gearbox?
It's so jumpy and jerky at low speed(5-15mph) iv had this problem looked at at 2 different garages (both BMW specialists) and they've both reset the computer and said it will learn my style of driving and should be fine from now on, well it hasn't to the point where it's a pain to drive and I don't enjoy driving anymore  also I had a problem with the Throttle body in January and ended up having it replaced after the car literally shuddered to death upon starting! Recently over the past couple of weeks when I get in my car il put it in drive and whilst my foot is still on the break it's lerch forward in a way I can only describe as 'DUH DUM!' and then into reverse the same again and then the same again putting it back into drive! So not happy with this car and haven't been since I bought it in September 2011. Should I get rid now before it dies completely and needs a complete new engine costing upwards of 4grand?!

Also I'm getting 22.9 mpg, £60 worth of petrol for around 260-290 miles dependant on driving style, given I do do a lot of city driving hardly ever drive on motorways and I am stuck at roundabouts and traffic lights regularly but seriously a 1.6 Cooper doing 22.9 mpg is my car mocking me or what???!!

Any help and advice greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Sam

The jumpiness at low speeds is a somewhat normal CVT quirk, but it shouldn't be as bad as you describe and while software resets often don't cure the problem they usually at least minimize it. I don't know anything about the other problems (sorry), except that your gas mileage does seem very low. My CVT gets about 28-30 mpg and that's the smaller US gallon. So, I'm sad to say yes I think you should probably unload the car. If the CVT fails it is enormously expensive to replace.
