hi all, I brought a cooper s reg 54 this past week and have been a little concerned with the mpg ive been getting from town driving.
I put 2gallon of regular unleaded in as a little test and this added roughly 70 miles to my 'miles remaining' count. i thought this was great, but as i drove to work the next day, a journey of around 5 mile i can loose easily 15 to 20 mile of this count and this is sticking to the 30 and 40 speedlimits with no harsh acceleration or driving. it cost me roughly £12 for the 2 gallons and this works out to at most around 30 miles of driving if my maths is right?
does this seem right to everyone or does it seem as though something could be wrong (if so what), is it worth trying premium unleaded?
As youve probably guessed im not really in the know when it comes to this kind of thing :(

thanks in advance
Carl.

When was the last time it was serviced? Its a supercharged engine so the fuel consuption wont be great. What sort of MPG are you getting?

I commute 9 miles each way 5 days a week on b roads and can barely get 300 miles out of a full tank. And average 22 mpg.

I had a 2.8 v6 4 wheel drive golf before the mini, and that was more economical!

Welcome to life in the fast and thirsty lane! ;)

If they all did 100mpg everyone would have one.

We generally get 27 - 28 round town with an ocasionally heavy foot.

The MPG meter and distance to empty readout go off recent driving performance and sitting in traffic kills it badly.

If you really want to know fill the tank, drive about 100 miles and then refil the tank, that way you can calculate the actual mpg, high 20s round town should be about right.

had the cooper s for just over a week now and i think its just took abit of getting used to driving it how its wants to be driven. not been used to the ratios and six speed before but i manage to get a decent mpg now. watching my distance to empty reader disapear on the hill to work and regaining it all on the way home still manages to keep me occupied though :p time to make some improvemnets now i think :)

As Liam mini 35 asks, check when it was last serviced and what was replaced. When I bought mine (May 2011) I checked the air-filter and it was clogged up. Gave it a service and replaced both the air and fuel filter (located in the tank - under the rear seat) and it ran sweet. MPG also improved - get 44+ on a run and about 28-30 round town.

I've been recording my costs including fuel economy over the last few months and in the last 2,341 miles, fuel consumption has been 27.4MPG. It does vary significantly from 35.4MPG at best on longer trips to 24MPG on my 8 mile commute through traffic.

Hope that helps!
