: Cherished Transfer

Hi,

I've just put a deposit down on a Cooper S with Mini in Derby and looking forward to getting it on Thursday. One query I have however is regarding the transfer of the registration on my current car.

The last time I traded my car in the dealer arranged the transfer direct between my trade in and new car and it cost ~£80.
This time the dealer has said it is too near the end of the month now and so I will have to put my registration on retention and then transfer it at a later date?
Is this true? Just sounds to me like they can't be bothered and I'll end up paying more to DVLA this route.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Kind regards,

Colin

You can do it any time you like, never heard of time restrictions preventing it being done before, think like you say its too much effort for them sounds like.
Tell them you will go elsewhere for the new car, that will soon get their backsides into gear :angry6wn:

I suspect the reason for them saying its too near the end of the month has nothing to do with the transfer - they want the sale recorded in May, not June. This excuse is about finances and sales targets - pure and simple.

If they are serious about getting the sale this month, you might get them to pay the fee for you. Otherwise, tell them you want the transfer done and will wait - they will usually find a way!

Thanks for the feedback, will definitely be having words with them, at the very least if they want it done the retention way they should be the shortfall between the cost of that and a straight transfer.
I suppose the only problem is that having already paid a deposit my negotiating power is some what reduced :s

yes it will be down to their sales targets for May.

you don't say if the car is brand new/pre- registered/second hand ?

although reading the post I would guess second hand and the cherished transfer would slow up the sale date.
