Hi, I'm new to the forum as the missus just bought a mini cooper 2005 with the factory navi.
I was under the impression that the cd player plays mp3's I don't know if I am burning the CDs wrongs I have tried various methods including finishing the cd using different brands of cdr's etc.
I can only think that because it has built in navi then they used an older style boost cd player as maybe the new one was not compatable with the navi.
What makes it more annoying is that in the music instruction booklet it mentions MP3's
I was looking at changing the head unit for an aftermarket but realised I will have to buy a very expensive adaptor to the sat nav voice still works.

Any ideas guys?

My 2005 MCS with factory sat nav plays .mp3 files recorded on to CD no problem. You are recording them on to CD and not a DVD aren't you? - it won't play DVDs and I made this mistake because I so rarely use a blank CD these days.

Yeah just recorded on to cdrs. The only other thing I can think is that the player was replaced by one of the previous owners because it broke or something.

Presumably it plays ordinary music CDs? Have you confirmed that your .MP3 recording CD works in another appliance?

I would think that if the car plays music CDs okay and your recordings work okay elsewhere, then your "replacement" theory is probably the most likely -- unless of course the kit in the car is faulty in some way. Replacing the head/radio unit is not straight forward -- I checked this out with Mikey the mini and apparently with manufacturer's satnav and multi function steering wheel it won't work as the original installation. Last time I checked with BMW the price of a replacement radio/boost was about £500. However, all this was a couple of years ago so it may well be worth checking with Mikey the mini again.
